Irish Eyes Were Smiling! Seafood & Storms with The Fisherman's Larder

This weekend, as the biggest tides of the year converged with high winds, a huge swell of waves crashed against the outer walls of the cafe at East Pier Smokehouse in St Monans.

Inside this cosy harbour venue, guests were treated to a spectacle of stormy seas and brooding skies, beyond rain battered windows. Indeed, the rough weather and beautiful waterfront cafe combined to create an atmospheric backdrop to the bespoke presentation by Jim Knox at The Fisherman's Larder.

Our visiting party, a group of six journalists from Ireland, have been commissioned to write articles on food in Fife for 'The Year Of Food And Drink'.  As part of their visit to the East Neuk - organised by Visit Scotland - our fisherman and seafood specialist was asked to give a talk about the ethos and work of The Fisherman's Larder.  Jim also provided an informative 'how to' demonstration on producing one of our hand-prepared, locally caught, dressed crabs.

Welcomed with a glass of prosecco and a log fire, our visitors were also invited to enjoy a Q&A and seafood tasters, ensuring that they were in high spirits before they once again ventured out into the cold.

The delighted group were returning to Ireland later in the day but we suggested one last culinary experience before leaving the East Neuk of Fife...a mug of handmade, warming hot chocolate at the Pittenweem Chocolate Company.

Did they enjoy their visit?  We hope the answer was in their contented smiles!

A special thanks again to the East Pier Smokehouse for allowing us to host the demonstration in their gorgeous venue.  You can experience their delicious food and amazing seafront location for yourself very soon! The smokehouse and cafe are reopening for weekends at Easter and will return to full-time hours in the summer season.
